Right after Kim made the appearance; speculations arose on how she lost weight to fit into the dress.

To fit into Marilyn Monroe’s dress, Kim followed a strict workout routine. Reportedly, she lost 7 kilos in 3 weeks for her Met Gala appearance in that dress, which was provided by Ripley’s Believe it or Not! Museum. However, this isn’t the first time she’s been on the news for a hard-to-believe weight loss transformation. Let’s look at it in detail:

The Atkins Diet

The 41-year-old is best known for her determination to stay in shape. In one interview, she revealed to have tried the Atkins diet after the birth of her second child. As per reports, she lost 70 pounds by following Atkins's 40 plan. This is a low-carb diet that is adapted to aid in weight loss. It’s seen as a healthy approach to becoming flexible and healthy. The Atkins diet also says that it’s a healthy lifelong approach, whether you want to lose weight, boost your energy, or help improve certain health problems, such as high blood pressure and metabolic syndrome. Looking at this, it’s no wonder why Kim Kardashian’s weight loss transformation involved the adoption of this diet.

Plant-based diet 

To remain in shape, she prefers to have plant-based products in her diet. In an interview, she revealed that she drinks Sea Moss smoothies. She significantly cut out on sugar, junk food, fast food, and fried food.

Workout

Kim Kardashian’s weight loss’s main factor was a consistent and daily workout. According to Melissa Alcantara, Kim K’s personal trainer, Kim works out six days a week. Kim has previously stated that she wakes up around 5:30 am to exercise, and according to E! news, she said “I work out about an hour and a half every single day, heavy weights, I don’t do a lot of cardio.”

Sweatsuit

In the past, Kim has mentioned wearing a plastic sweatsuit to lose weight. She shared a video of herself on Instagram and said, “Don (Kim’s trainer) just called me Missy Elliot. Look it, I’m wearing a full swear suit 'cause I gotta lose this extra, like, seven pounds.” She also revealed that Khloe often wears a sauna suit while working out to shed kilos.

Speculations and Criticisms

Earlier, Kim and Khloe were accused of taking Hollywood’s infamous fad weight loss drug known as Ozempic. Both sisters have denied any use of unnatural means and have said that their weight loss is due to dieting and exercise. Khloe has shut down any accusations stating the alleged use of drugs for weight loss by any of her sisters. In 2022, she was also heavily criticized for losing 21 pounds in 3 weeks just to wear Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dress for the Met Gala. 

Her diet is also not safe, says Jonathan Valdez, the owner of Genki Nutrition. “It’s also unrealistic”, says FitOn trainer Bree Mitchell. First, “weight is not always equaling body fat,” she explains. Meaning that those 16 pounds she dropped could not have been just body fat; it could also have been water weight. Both Valdez and Mitchell agree unanimously that losing so much weight so quickly can be hard on the body. Mitchell says a diet like Kim’s can also have negative effects on her metabolic rate and even lead to muscle loss.

The takeaway from this is that to lose weight, a fancy diet or a complex workout regimen is not necessary to lose weight. A simple workout plan and diet should be enough for one to lose weight, mixed with some cardio. In the case of Kim Kardashian, the measures she took to lose an absurd amount of weight are over the top and unhealthy. Hence adopting her workout routine and diet is not very beneficial in the long term. Instead, one should try to balance a healthy and sustainable diet whilst working out 5-6 days a week with rest days, which is the healthier option when compared to Kim K’s routine.
